BUILDING A NEW HOME

This is a detailed account of our experience building a dream house. Hopefully, it will chronicle our daily or at least weekly experiences with the project. We are not building it ourselves, but instead hired a builder to handle that part of the stress. This is our labor of love and we give thanks to God for blessing us with the opportunity to do it.

I absolutely love and adore God as my first mission in life. My second greatest loves are my children and husband. I also have a very deep and sincere commitment to the aid, love and support of hurting, impoverised, and/or underprivelaged children here and abroad. I spend much of my resources trying to be a blessing to many of those children in the world. If you are interested in helping please let me know. I am very interested in business issues as I own 2 companies. I am highly ambitious and driven. I love new homes, and interior design. I'm an admitted shopaholic. I've been singing since I was a small child and have an infinite love for music.

Tubs are In - House Is Beautiful

I am so excited today. My heart and spirit just really feel whole about this experience. Today was the first time of the 3 times that we have walked through our house when there was actually a house to walk through all ALONE. It wa so great. We just felt more free and really took our time walking through every room and appreciating the whole house and all the work that has been done. The big news-THE TUBS ARE IN. Wow! I was so shocked to see that. The plumbers have been in this week and did the plumbing in time to get ready for the big inspection. The whole roof is on now including the shingles. Today was such a beautiful bright day, warm, but just cool enough and a wonderful breeze just blew through every part of the house. The really great news - it looks like we may finish at the end of June instead of the end of July. We'll see.

The Plywood Roof Is On

Today is Wednesday and I just couldn't resist going over to the site to take a quick peek. We have basically committed to going once a week on Friday, so that the experience wont be like watching paint dry - but oh well. It was cool. The plywood part of the roof is on. By Friday I wouldn't be surprised if the windows are all in. Couldn't resist more pictures.

THE FRAME IS UP!!!

Today was the most EXCITING day yet. Today we can see our home. The frame is really going up. I've gone picture crazy. It is utterly amazing how quickly these teams work. When we got to our site this evening around 5pm, Rich, the builder was there. He offered to take us inside of the house today. Now that there is an inside...I love it! I stood in my living room, foyer, office, dining room. It was great. They have framed a lot of the first floor and next week will work on the second floor. Rich mentioned that the framers really were able to accomplish a lot this week because they brought in two teams to get our house done - as apparently he needs them to get over to a model he's working on building as well. He has promised us 5 mths. and 10 days exactly and he tends to be on time. Great repuation he has for building a really strong house. My husband said he had a dream that we were actually walking around in the house and it was framed. It truly came true! Best of all when we drove up I saw this big structure and thought that's not our house is it? It was. You can actually see it now as you're coming up the street. Big Blessing! All thanks to God!

THE FRAME BEGINS

Ok, so usually we wait and go over to our building site only once a week on Fridays. The idea being if we give it a week and go back we're usually greatly surprised and pleased at all the progress. There's usually something different to see. But last Friday, there was not much to see. Mon-Thurs. went by with no work. The lumber didn't come in until Friday. From our pictures there wasn't much to see. Just some steel beams. Well since we knew framing would fully start on Monday we planned to take a look on Wed. and then to go back as usual on Friday with our children. It so happens we had a little extra time today, so we thought let's take a quick peek. Low and behold they're really moving. I could see windows in the front of the house and windows in the family room around the fireplace. This really makes it come to life. However, I think there will be much more to see by Friday. We are so excited. Honestly, this whole process just makes me love my husband more! (sometimes).

Not Much To See On Framing

Ok, there's not really much to see here at this point. Yesterday we went by our site to see the latest and the greatest. We knew the Framer's would be starting this week. That was the most exciting part to me. However, it turns out that the lumber wasn't in until yesterday, Friday and thus they didn't start until yesterday. The whole week basically went by with no action, until Friday. We didn't expect to see much yesterday, but I was hoping to maybe see one wall of frame. NOT. We saw some steel beams up and a few planks of wood right on top of the concrete but that's about it. Well we'll go by early this week, maybe on Wed. There should be a lot more to see between Wed. and Friday.

The Concrete Is Poured

This is so exciting. Today we went over to our site and found that the concrete had already been poured and is just about done and set. Hooray, very cool. It is just so amazing to us how much is being accomplished seemingly so quickly. We can actually really see the full footprint of the house now. The garage, living rooom, dining room, etc. 2 pictures from the pour are attached here. Just today my builder informed me that framing will likely begin next week. Yipee!! That's the really good stuff. I really look forward to seeing the frame. Once you see that it just really starts to feel like, oh my gosh I really have a house here. It is going to be really beautiful when it's done. Meanwhile back to watching the money and costs. :-)
